Christmas!

Yes, I know it is over and done with and this is a tad overdue but I just wanted to share a few of my favourite things from the holiday period:

My pride and joy - my Gingerbread house!

Christmas day - the table settings:

And the baking . . .

Pinwheel shortbread

A batch of my Nanny's famous cherry shortbread:

And last but not least, my Santa bear collection
with their counterpart cookies:

Yum and so much fun!
I'm already counting down till next christmas!

Homemade muesli

I'm back! - following a brief hiatus . . . my life has been all consumed over Christmas and New Years with plenty of visitors and, unfortunately, work. But I am ready to get back into my beloved blog, and fittingly have decided to start the year with a recipe for the best way to start the day, with homemade muesli!

Nothing is more satisfying then rolling out of bed and dining on a bowl of this, and in our house we've decided to make this our new Sunday night ritual . . . the recipe can be chopped and changed depending on your mood and what you have available in the pantry.

Home made muesli
2 cups rolled oats
2 T honey
1 cup of chopped dried fruit and nuts (I've used a mixture of dried apricots, dates, sultanas, almonds and walnuts)

Mix the rolled oats with the honey, coating as much as possible. Pop in an oven preheated to 180 degrees until browned, stirring every five minutes or so for approx 20 minutes.

Mix in the chopped dried fruit and nuts:

And . . . it is literally that simple!

It's affordable, tasty and healthy. Try this, and I guarantee you'll hesitate before ever buying boxed/ pre-packaged cereal again. Serve with milk or yoghurt.

Have a great week! x
